Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Post by The Prez on Wed Jul 15, 2009 7:48 pm

Finally, a Harry Potter book has been adapted well. With a good cast, fluid plot, and entertainment value, this is by the far the best of the series. Prominent in perfecting this film was Jim Broadbent as Horace Slughorn and Alan Rickman as Severus Snape. I actually enjoyed this adaptation and look forward to the final film. Downside: The music just isn't as good as John Williams, so he needs to come back

hunnnnnghhhhhhh I want to see this so badly but I don't think I will until after I move Sad I always go to see them with my parents, it's kind of weird...

also I heard they destroy how Horcruxes are presented but I heard there's also a lot of H/G so my internal shipper will be happy

I'm really pissed because I heard they cut Dobby and Kreacher. Ugh...

Also, there's nothing about Dumbledore's funeral? WTF? Not only was it a good chance to see some R/Hr, but it gave Harry PURPOSE TO FIND HORCRUXES. ladfskjkjlafsgklsfhfkdj

Other than that I heard it's quite excellent.

I liked the movie as a movie. I disliked it as an adaptation of the book, although it was probably the best they could do. It's a 650 page book, and it's impossible to be faithful in a 2.5 hour movie. They did skimp on a few things and left things out that are crucial to the 7th movie (such as the memory showing the goblet as a possible horcrux). They also barely mentioned the HBP. But they couldn't do everything, so I don't blame them, except for putting in new scenes that weren't in the book. THat made me mad.

True, the burrow scene did nothing for me. As for the Horcrux cup, they have two films to include it, it'll probably get in.

My review of HP6 (spoilers, fangirling, etc, you have been warned)

1. WHEN DID HOGWARTS GET SO BEAUTIFUL? Seriously, all the people who go to Hogwarts have suddenly become stunning. Cormac McLaggen is far more attractive than I imagined him, Draco's being all "wahhh I'm EMOTIONAL" and the Phelps twins are brilliant as always. Also, Ginny is quite a stunner. I swear I don't watch these things just to drool, although you could probably do that with HP6.
2. Yessss they do cut a lot out from the book. I was fairly okay with it except for the end, where Harry has absolutely no direction. He just sort of stands there and is like, "Well this sucks."
3. BE STILL MY SHIPPING HEART. Soooo much H/G and R/Hr. It made me squee a lot.
4. Luna's headdress is the best thing ever. Ditto all her costumes, actually.
5. BURNING THE BURROW LIKE WHATTTTT? Okay that bit I wasn't okay with.
6. No Scrimgeour = teh sux, I missed "Dumbledore's man through and through."
7. Speaking of Dumbledalf, the Inferi looked more like baby Gollums to me. I hadn't pictured them being so slimy.
8. Battle = terribly anticlimactic.
9. Acting, superb. Favourites: Jim Broadbent and Helena Bonham-Carter. Oh, and Alan Rickman. Missed seeing his DADA class too Sad

I agree with 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9. The Burrow Scene made no sense. On the plus side, Scrimegeour is going to be in 7 for what I've been told a signficant time. The Battle was cut as to make this film not a repeat of THE Battle of Hogwarts
