My roommate spies on me

So I decided to do some school work in bed today and came out of my room at 5 to make a sandwich. When I came out my roommate asked me if I had been in there for a while awake. I told him I had and he said: "I wasn't sure, because I looked through the crack between your door and the wall and I didn't see you at your desk and I could only see your feet."

HOLY SHIT! ONE OF MY MOST PARANOID FEARS IS PROVED TRUE. HOLY SHIT! WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Was your door closed?

CLOSED AND LOCKED, the crack is not all that large, but you can see the end of my bed and my desk through it

He's shaking hands with the president while you sleep.

No, he's just watching the president's feet whilst he sleeps.

Creeper but I'm not sure this constitutes as spying. Then again... my roommate lives in the same room as I do and has several times asked me to avert my eyes because she's partially nude. Not that I have ever looked, because I have not, but it seems that she is a lot more comfortable around me than I am around her.

But then again my situation's completely different from yours.

The difference is a door, locked and closed with a purpose

THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT... I don't even know, I can't come up with any variety of witty comeback for that remark.

It is disturbing, creepy, and totally inappropriate

like him shaking hands if you know what I mean.

it is kinda odd. is this the roommate that I suggested burning down his room for?

I should think so, he only has the one.

Should I tell him I don't like him? Like beyond the oddities?

It depends. Do you want your living setup to become a guaranteed living nightmare? Then sure, tell him. As it stands, if you can hide it well, he will never know.

Be warned that this may result in fits of passive-agression, writing stories about your roommate on a frequent basis, crying when you are all alone in the flat, and general bouts of depression.

...

Speaking of spying, I was hiding under the covers this morning and when my roommate woke up, I was awake too but I didn't emerge. She then told me when she came back from her shower that she's stood above my bed for about a minute, trying to figure out if I was in there or not.

She also seems to be intent on whatever I'm doing on the computer. Like, I don't know, when I'm writing emails to Tobin. And last night, she came up and I'd only written about her a paragraph before. She kept watching me type. It was unnerving. I think she thinks I am a puppy.

unrelated, if you have only 1 roommate, how would you close the door on him? wouldn't it be his room too?

I have solved Alex's dilemma. type while hiding under your covers. then, she won't know if you're there or not, and can't see what you type.

But she'll know I'm there, I type so quickly that it's fairly audible. And then she'd wonder why I'm hiding from her, and the honest answer would be, "Because I'm writing a story about you for my creative writing class," but then again, I'm not so good with honesty these days. Never saying that.

And it's a flat, I think, so each person has his own separate room.

sounds fancy, 2 people, 3 rooms?
not a bad set up though.

close your door lie on your floor, so when he decides to look under the door, you'll be looking right back at him.

So we got a letter from the apartment people today saying that the deadline for next year is coming up. I need to come up with a reason for not rooming with him, because if I tell him I don't want to because I don't want to, he'll inquire and then I'll probably blow up at him and scream my head at him (and I don't want that). Either way the reason must accomplish a basic point: It must not piss Matt off, because Matt is vindictive and desperate and if the reason isn't solid and makes sense he will be a misery ON PURPOSE. Help?

I'm surprised no one has offered you a detailed solution to the Matt problem in a facebook chat, seems like the sort of place where problems would be solved, although I don't know by whom.

I've not really been able to be on FB chat as of late because I
(a) am trying to avoid awkward anti-theist guy who may like me
(b) have too much work to really get sidetracked by FB chat

Maybe you could tell him that you don't like the location of these flats, and you're looking around at other options (but be deliberately vague on the subject).

It is also worth noting that my roomie just came over and watched me doing my ONLINE BANKING. She didn't pat my head like she normally does, making me feel more human, but still, what the fuck. I feel like I'm becoming just as paranoid as you, Drew.

@Luke: While your detailed solution via Facebook chat was specific and full of detail, it was also illegal.
@Alex: If I tell him I am looking at other places he'll either want to move to or give incentives to stay, or bring up reasons to stay. He keeps saying "maybe I can get them to lower the rent" (btw, that IS NOT going to happen)
@All: Thursday is a re-leasing party that can guarantee you your current apartment. Matt has class he wanted me to go and reserve this room for next year. My solution: Just bought tickets for home, leaving Thursday night.

That's an expensive solution (in that it costs more than saying 'No'), and I disavow all knowledge of any such chat as you have described ever occurring. I do not believe it did, and therefore do not know to what you are referring.
