THANK YOU!

Post by The Prez on Thu May 06, 2010 6:51 pm

Dear Members of the 3rd United States Government Simulation,
After 40 weeks and 36 simulated years we come to the end of the longest and arguably most successful Government Simulation to date. I am very proud of the outstanding contributions of so many of our forum members and I am very glad that so many new members were invited to join the forum from Luke Wachob to Carl Lew and Holly Sheldon to Trent Rogers. I hope you have enjoyed the Government Simulation even in its dying days and I PROMISE that a 4th United States Government Simulation is NOT in the works. In the upcoming weeks I will be working with a board of forum members to plan a new simulation that will be hopefully even more awesome. I also hope to help in my capacity as moderator to transform this forum into a more college oriented forum that will benefit all of us as we continue our effort to stay in touch and own each other in whatever means possible (although one hopes no hard feelings have resulted from this simulation, I still admire you all as gifted politicians even on the small scale). SO YAY! We did it! And now... it is done.

So the first qualification for the Major Eleven Politicians (there were 15 total politicians) is total time served in an office.

Three people stayed in office for all 36 sim years:
-Casey C. Gordon
-Andrew C. Hanna
-Lucas M. Wachob

The other 8 served the following:
-Ryan N. Dohn (31 years)
-Alexandra J. Clifton (30 years)
-Lucas F. Epp (27 years)
-Max S. Lustig (23 years)
-Holly L. Sheldon (19 years)
-Trenton K. Rogers (17 years)
-Utahraptor (16 years)
-Carl A. Lew (14 years)

The second following condition is time served in Congress. This will apply to everyone being considered except Casey who will have his 31 years as Chief Justice to look at.

NON-CONSECUTIVE SERVICE IN CONGRESS:
1. Andrew C. Hanna- 25 years over 3 tenures
2. Lucas F. Epp- 24 years over 2 tenures
3. Lucas M. Wachob- 23 years all consecutive
4. Ryan N. Dohn- 20 years over 2 tenures
5. Utahraptor- 15 years over 3 tenures
6. Carl A. Lew- 14 years all consecutive
7. Max S. Lustig- 14 years all consecutive
8. Alexandra J. Clifton- 14 years over 3 tenures
9. Trenton K. Rogers- 9 years over 2 tenures
10. Holly L. Sheldon- 1 year consecutive

In addition, Allison K. Craig served 2 years, Matt Rubin served 3 years, and Samantha Frank served 1 year. All of these politicians are not part of the major eleven.

I don't remember you taking over the government at all. Drew, did that happen? I thought he just lost his re-election bid, got impeached, and removed, then Casey was President.

Re: THANK YOU!

Post by The Prez on Wed May 12, 2010 10:33 pm

OK. We have eleven major politicians:
-L. Wachob
-L. Epp
-A. Clifton
-A. Hanna
-H. Sheldon
-T. Rogers
-M. Lustig
-C. Gordon
-C. Lew
-R. Dohn
-Utahraptor

I am going to reduce the number in contention by four. Here are the reasons I give for keeping people so far and for not keeping people.

Wachob: Served as the leader three branches of government, never was out of office, only President to serve two full terms, and the longest consecutively serving member of Congress. Wachob stays for certain.

Hanna: Longest Serving Non-Consecutive member of Congress, but never served as the head of the legislative branch. Also stayed in an office the entire sim, was elected President, but failed to win reelection in Year 20 against President Rogers. In addition, Hanna had a scandal in Year 7 leading to his first departure from Congress. Regardless, I am going to keep myself in the race, because there are so many worse politicians.

Sheldon: Sheldon is one of the few people to have served in all three branches (one of three) and was one of the few people elected twice as President. Sheldon is being removed from this list, but only barely.

Rogers: Rogers was widely considered to have been a horrible leader at the time of his Presidency and therefore he ranks quite low all things considered. I am not sure if I should count his victory in Year 20 an accomplishment and amazing feat worthy of staying on or as a take off of points for everyone else for not challenging him. I am going to say a takeoff of points and therefore remove President Rogers from consideration.

Lustig: Removed from consideration simply because his Presidency might have even been worse than Rogers' and he also lost reelection. Again, points taken off for no one running against him the first time around.

Epp: Despite being an impeached and removed President, Epp also is one of our longest serving Senators. For this reason I cannot remove him from consideration.

Gordon: Casey kept a single job longer than anyone else consecutively or not. He also was elected President to top off his career and gave dinosaurs the rights they deserved. KEPT IN THE RACE.

So of the seven Presidents I deleted three. That leaves three spots open for the taking of: Alex Clifton, Carl Lew, Ryan Dohn, and Utahraptor.

I am going to delete Vice President Lew mostly because his service record was only 14 years to which he accomplished little. While dedicated, he is not top seven.

So Dohn, Clifton, and Utahraptor advance. I still wish; however, to say why. Let us first consider Utahraptor who is the only one on the list who never led a body. Utahraptor's career consists of defeating Senate Leader Lustig, serving as a Justice, running for Vice President, and serving again in the Senate for a total of three times.

Second we have Ryan Dohn. Dohn served as the Speaker of the House, was always active in affairs even when not in office. Yet Dohn year after year could not win election to the Senate and only returned to the Senate from an appointment. Yet Dohn has a legacy for a non-executive, which is very hard to achieve. If I must say why Dohn is on the fence it is because I would have liked to have seen him run for President, but that is his choice, so who is to be a critic.

Finally there is Alex. Alex ran for President twice and ran for Vice President three times. She was elected Vice President twice. Alex also served twice in the Senate and once in the House and even served on the court. The big problem is that Alex gave up in the middle of the sim and was also the subject of the Supreme Court case Hanna v. Clifton, et al.

So there you have it. The seven best sim politicians are:
-Alexandra J. Clifton
-Ryan N. Dohn
-Lucas F. Epp
-Casey C. Gordon
-Andrew C. Hanna
-Utahraptor
-Lucas M. Wachob

In regards to the other four I have decided to rank them:
8. Holly L. Sheldon
9. Carl A. Lew
10. Trenton K. Rogers
11. Max S. Lustig

In the next stage everyone else will be more involved in deciding the top five.

For the record of the sim: Lucas F. Epp the 6th President of the United States attempted to take over the government, but because the whole government actually continued to operate and ignored him, then removed him from office, the coup is considered a fail.

Re: THANK YOU!

Post by The Prez on Wed May 12, 2010 10:50 pm

So the next idea is elections.

CLIFTON:
Lost Presidency twice
Elected Vice President twice, lost a third time
Elected twice to the Senate, but lost a reelection bid

DOHN:
Lost Vice Presidency attempt
Lost numerous attempts in the Senate
Did win one reelection attempt

EPP:
Ran for President three times and won once
Elected often to the Senate, but was defeated by Andrew Hanna
Won the largest percentage of the vote in the first election for Senate of all candidates running

GORDON:
Ran only once for President and won

HANNA:
Lost only one election (President Year 20)
Ran for President twice
Ran numerous times for Senate and never lost

UTAHRAPTOR:
Lost bid for Vice Presidency in an unbroken tie
Was elected over Senate leader Lustig in a landslide
Did lose his seat, but was reelected

WACHOB:
Never lost any election ever

From this and the already considered I believe Epp, Gordon, Hanna, and Wachob deserve to advance, but I remain unable to decide who should go. Only one of these three may stay: Clifton, Dohn, or Utahraptor? Who do you think?

Re: THANK YOU!

Post by The Prez on Sat May 15, 2010 11:00 pm

I think I am going to go with Wachob and allow Utahraptor to continue on. As for Clifton and Dohn I think Dohn deserves #6 and Clifton deserves #7.

So the top 5 greatest SIM POLITICIANS:
-Lucas F. Epp
-Casey C. Gordon
-Andrew C. Hanna
-Utahraptor
-Lucas M. Wacob

I think it is clear that Utahraptor should be the next politician to go. Of the group he is the only one not to serve the entire sim and did not serve the entire time either. In addition, Utahraptor was never President (or even Vice President) keeping him even more separate. Utahraptor wasn't ever a leader of any branch either and lost a Senate election, something he shares only with Epp. He is clearly the weakest politician of the bunch, though great he is, is not one of the four best.

THEREFORE: Utahraptor is #5 best Politician leaving four Presidents. The first two and last two:

LUCAS F. EPP
Lucas F. Epp began his career as a US Senator, receiving more votes in his favor than any other senator that year, naming him as the Head of the Senate, and effectively (later officially) the 1st Vice President of the United States. Epp served in this role until Year 5 when the 28th Amendment expanded the size of the Senate and Former Speaker Dohn became its leader. He resumed leadership of the Senate in Year 9 when Senator Dohn was defeated and served in that position until his defeat by President Hanna in Year 12. After his defeat in the Senate, Epp began the FTL Party and ran for President in Year 16 against President Holly L. Sheldon. Epp tied Sheldon in the election, but lost when the election came to the Senate. Epp managed to reenter the Senate in Year 17; however, when Senator Utahraptor accepted a nomination to the Supreme Court and remained in the Senate until his election as President in Year 28 defeating incumbent President Max S. Lustig. Epp served as President until shortly after he lost the election of Year 32 to Casey C. Gordon. Epp attempted to take over the government, but Congress managed to impeach and remove him, installing Gordon as President early. Epp was later declared a child molester.

CASEY C. GORDON
Casey C. Gordon began his sim career in Year 1 when he nominated successfully by President Wachob to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Gordon spent a total of 31 years as Chief Justice and made several massively important rulings. Gordon came into brief controversy following World War III when he was impeached on charges of breaching habeas corpus. Gordon was acquitted in a close vote and polls following the trial showed that Gordon was one of the most popular politicians in the sim. In Year 32, Gordon finally sought elected office successfully defeating President Epp and became the first strong agenda-pushing executive in 20 years.

ANDREW C. HANNA
Andrew C. Hanna began his sim career as Congressional Clerk. In Year 2 he became Acting Senator for Senator Allison K. Craig and eventually became the official Senator in Year 3. Hanna was the most productive Senator under the Wachob Era, but resigned prematurely due to a scandal he was involved in dealing with the impeachment proceedings of President Wachob and Chief Justice Gordon. Regardless, a year after leaving office, Hanna was elected President in a close election and served only one term before deciding to return to the Senate, defeating Senate Leader Lucas F. Epp. Hanna remained in the Senate for much of the remainder of the sim with three major events of note. First that he ran for President and lost in Year 20 to Trenton K. Rogers. Second that he left the Senate for four years, and lastly that he served as Acting Chief Justice between Gordon's ascension to the Presidency and Wachob's swearing in.

LUCAS M. WACHOB
Wachob began his career of 36 years with a landslide election over Alex Clifton to become the 1st President of the United States. Wachob went on to become the nation's longest serving President bar none and consistently ranked for the entire sim (save 2 polls) as the most popular and highest approved of politician in the sim. Wachob's Presidency saw many reforms and more legislation than any other Presidency combined. Wachob also was a master of the executive order (also passing more than any other President combined). Wachob was; however, impeached, but acquitted following World War III (his reputation did not falter following this incident). Following his Presidency, Wachob served the longest consecutive Senate tenure. After 23 years in the Senate, Wachob became the nation's second Chief Justice and has given some of the most carefully worded opinions of the court in its history.
