Most Underrated/Unrecognized Hockey Player of All Time

Post by selgguns.CM on Wed Jun 17, 2009 12:48 pm

Personally I'd go with either Ron Francis or Mark Recchi...Not because people don't know OF them, but the fact that people don't realize how incredible their achievements are.

Ron Francis:
-4th All-time in NHL Points (Only behind Gretzky, Howe, and Messier)
-1798 Career Points
-Played over 1700 games and still managed 1.04 P/G (Points per Game)

Marc Recchi
-14th All-time in NHL Points
-1490 Career Points
-Traded NINE TIMES, still managing to put up points (very flexible and intelligent player)

HONORABLE MENTION

Ray Bourque
-Top Scoring defenseman of all time
-One of the top scoring skaters of all time (I wanna say 13th but I'm not positive)
-Constantly overshadowed by the greatest defenseman of all time, especially since he was a Bruin for most of his career

As a fan of sports, no sport is overrated. Especially hockey, which has more fans in Canada than the US. Definitely not overrated south of the border.

Sir, whomever you may be, just because it seems like you don't like hockey doesn't mean the topic isn't relevant.

Thank you for responding to my post twice to prove your point about staying on topic. Smile

Most overrated... I honestly have no idea since I never watch hockey except some Sabres games every once in a while.

I don't know who the most underrated player is, but Cindy Crosby is for sure the most overrated player everrrr. Ovechkin is better.

I agree that Sydney Crosby is overrated and that Ovechkin is better.

But more than that, Sydney Crosby is an egotistical dbag. Ovechkin on the other hand, while also an asshole, truly loves the game in the purest way. He may talk about himself as the best (which he very well may be right now), but more than anything else he just loves playing. Crosby represents all that is corrupt in today's game and Ovechkin represents all that is right.

Gosh, can anyone spell Sidney Crosby correctly?!?!?!

They're both bums, but I care for Ovechkin more. They are both, in my opinion, overrated, though Crosby more than Ovechkin (by a long shot because they say he's better than Ovechkin and he really IMO isn't).

* I call him Cindy Crosby as a joke. And yes, I know his name is really Sidney.

Ovechkin's not a bum. I think he's a really great player to watch just because he loves the game more. Cindy's good but really, Malkin is better.

However, there are players out there like Brodeur who get praise and rightly so because they deserve it (even though Brodeur isn't really my favourite -- Luongo is funner).

I followed the joke by spelling Sydney with the female spelling.

And Ovechkin isn't a bum. He's all about the game. While he jokes like an asshole, he really doesn't give a shit what people think of him. He's proven that time after time

Ray Borque was not a good player. Don't let stats fool you into thinking that. Although, I must admit, scoring machine, deak-master, offensive powerhouse Brad May is pretty hard to stop. Oh wait... no, he's not. It extends beyond that one play but after seeing a ton of old games I have concluded that Borque was a dork.

I'd have to say guys like Adam Deadmarsh and Mike Dunham get no mention historically when they were both great players, and both Americans.

Ron Francis is a good call, he certainly was an ugly bastard but he was great.

And to name a guy that played as a Sabre for some years - anybody ever hear of Dale Hawerchuk? He was a great player for several teams.
